About the Forest
Endnight Games published The Forest, a survival videogame. After a plane crashes, The Forest challenges the player to survive on a forested peninsula. A “cannibal” steals the player’s son and then takes him away. The player must create shelter, weapons and other survival tools to survive. A tribe of cannibalistic, nocturnal mutants, who live in caves below the peninsula and villages on the island, is part of the inhabitants. Although they don’t always seem hostile, their behaviour is quite aggressive, especially at night. The developers ask players to consider whether the cannibalistic tribe on the island is an enemy or a friend. The cannibals might hesitate to attack the player when they first meet them. Instead, they may observe from a distance and attempt to communicate with him through effigies. They then send patrols to the base camp of the player. They will often try to protect each other from injury, remove torches and surround the player. They also fear fire and will often avoid approaching players if a torch or campfire is nearby. There is no end goal, but there are set missions. As they progress through the game and explore the caves beneath the forest surface, the player will encounter more bizarre mutations, such as deformed babies and mutants with several additional appendages. You can also build shelters and traps, hunt animals, collect supplies, and defend yourself against mutants at night.
