Minecraft is a 3D sandbox that doesn’t have any goals. This gives players the freedom to choose how they want to play. There is, however, an achievement system. The default view is first-person, but players can choose to see the game from a third-person perspective. The game world is composed of rough 3D objects–mainly cubes and fluids, commonly called “blocks”–representing various materials, such as dirt, stone, ores, tree trunks, water, and lava. These objects are the core gameplay. The blocks can be placed in a grid-like 3D layout, and players can freely move around the globe. Players can place blocks elsewhere and “mine” them, which allows them to build.
