Riot announced that it had formed a long-term partnership with Tiffany & Co. to create the League of Legends World Championship Trophy. The Summoner’s Cup, as it is known, has been redesigned and will be displayed for the first time on August 29th on Riot social media channels. (You can see a partial picture below).
Tiffany & Co. is a long-standing brand of jewellery. Its headquarters are in New York City. The jeweller Charles Lewis Tiffany founded it in 1837. The company has sold a lot of engagement rings in diamonds and expanded into high-end products. There are hundreds of stores around the world. Tiffany & Co. is a well-known brand with an old-world reputation. They have also designed many traditional sporting trophies and worked first with Riot to redesign the Silver Dragon Cup of the Chinese LoL league last year.
Riot’s LoL Esports Lead Naz Aletaha says that the Summoner’s cup symbolises greatness and the crowning achievement of League of Legends. “Tiffany & Co, a storied brand, is the most renowned designer of the greatest sports trophies in the world. It’s an honour to work with them to commemorate our past, present and future World Champions.
There are also numbers in the press release! The Summoner’s Cup, made from sterling silver, measures approximately 27 inches and weighs 44 lbs. It took Tiffany’s designers four months to create and 277 hours of work by ‘expert artisans’ at a hollowware shop in Cumberland, Rhode Island.
Tiffany’s Alexandre Arnault said, “We are excited about continuing our partnership with League of Legends Esports,” while flipping through a stack of hundred-dollar bills. I made up the bills. “Creating the Summoner’s Cup was another significant moment for Tiffany in esports. It is also an exciting chapter in our 160-year history of handcrafting sports trophies.
This Autumn, the League of Legends World Championship will return to North America for the first time since 2016. It will be held in a multi-city format. The Qualifying rounds start in September, with the Worlds Final in San Francisco on November 5th. The Worlds event has a serious reputation and attracts a large audience annually. In 2021, the match at the Finals averaged more than 30,000,000 viewers per minute and more than 73 million peak concurrents.
Riot, also working towards a long-term goal of “slowing the pace of combat” within LoL, recently added all League champions to Game Pass. Riot’s future looks bright, and this trophy is a well-deserved show of pride.
