Xbox Boss Wants FFXIV on His Consoles
The best and most holy way to play Final Fantasy XIV on PC is via the PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5. While the controller-bound are on the Sony side, Xbox gamers look in from the outside. I am waiting for the FFXIV team’s port.
Microsoft extended another invitation to the Japanese gaming community last week at the Tokyo Game Show. Phil Spencer, Xbox boss, spoke to the Japanese website Game Watch (as translated from VGC), where he mentioned FFXIV. It is one of the most popular MMOs available. Microsoft is currently trying to buy the publisher of another one. Spencer would love to see it on the platform.
“Naturally, we haven’t given up yet. This is a commitment by Square Enix and Microsoft to gamers, and we will continue to coordinate,” Spencer said regarding FFXIV.
Spencer’s 2019 claim that Final Fantasy XIV would soon be available on Xbox is what Spencer means by “giving up.” Eurogamer claims he made the statement to the press before the XO19 event. This was after many Final Fantasy titles were announced to Xbox Game Pass.
“The wise people may have noticed that one Final Fantasy is missing from our list. [ FFXIV] has been a project I have dedicated my time to. Yoshida, the director, helped me find a way to bring that game to Xbox. It’s not currently in the news, but I wanted to let you know that we will be bringing the game to Xbox.” he stated. “We have a great relationship Yoshida, and we are working out what it means for us to bring a cross-platform MMO that they’ve been running for years. It will be one game coming, and I’m sure our Xbox fans will be thrilled to see it.”
Yoshida followed up on this comment a few more months later. He explained to WCCftech that the problem was partly due to crossplay and restrictions by Microsoft around online multiplayer content.
“I spoke with Phil Spencer two months ago. Although I explained it before, Yoshida said we are open to crossplay anytime. “Players on different platforms can’t chat in-game. This is one of the rules. Another regulation states that you can’t create a community of players on different platforms. Therefore, I request that Microsoft amend its regulations.
This was the last time FFXIV was discussed on an Xbox. It seems that neither party has reached an agreement to allow the MMO to leap the Xbox Series S/X. Sony delivers FFXIV to consoles.
