Borderlands is an open-world action first-person shooter video game that was released in 2009. Gearbox calls Borderlands a “role playing shooter” because it includes character-building elements that are common in role-playing games.
Each player chooses one of four characters at the beginning of the game. Each character has a unique skill and is proficient with certain weapons. Players then take on missions that are assigned to them by non-player characters, bounty boards or other players.
Each mission usually rewards the player with experience points, money, and a reward item. You can earn experience by killing non-human enemies and completing in-game tasks (such as completing a certain amount of kills with a particular weapon type).
Players can gain experience and put skill points into a skill tree with three distinct specializations. Mordecai, for instance, can specialize in sniping or gunslinging with revolvers.
He can also use his pet Bloodwing as a weapon to aid in killings and health-boosting. Players can share points between any of these specializations. They can also spend small amounts of in-game cash to redistribute skill points.
