It has been a difficult few months for DC. Warner Bros. Even though production was wrapping, Discovery pulled out of Batgirl. Fans were extremely disappointed by the decision. The film would also have marked the return to Batman’s Michael Keaton. Warner Bros. claimed that the cancellation would allow them focus on “great DC movies” such as The Flash. Yikes.

This is another can of worms. After pleading not guilty, Ezra Miller, the lead actor, is now facing up to 26 years imprisonment. ‘s most recent release Black Adam received an awful Rotten Tomatoes rating . However, there is good news. The Warner Bros. and DC Black Superman projects are still in development.

 

Warner Bros. had announced in February that Ta-Nehisi coates would write the screenplay for a Black Superman film, while J.J Abrams will produce it. Although there were few details, insiders confirmed that Warner Bros. was committed to hiring a black director to oversee the project. Although updates have been scarce since then, pre-production is still going on despite the Batgirl disaster.

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the fact, but was unable to identify exactly where the project is in its production cycle. Given the fact that many of his DC projects have been canceled, it’s not clear if J.J Abrams is still involved.
