Star Wars Jedi: Survivor day one patch is more massive than many full games! Yikes!
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2 takes place five years later than its predecessor and features an older and wiser Cal Kestis as the Galactic Empire continues its relentless efforts against him – assailing Jedi all along his journey. While visuals and performance may have improved from their counterpart, gameplay features such as dual wield stance are new features which were not present before in Fallen Order; giving an excellent example of how to advance an existing series by developing it further with sequel. In many ways Star Wars Jedi Survivor serves as an excellent example of how an existing series can continue into its sequel iterations by expanding on iterations: iterative development by moving it along its evolutionary cycle from Fallen Order into its sequel iterations.
However, all those improvements come at the cost of your hard drive storage space. Recently it was reported that even physical copies of games will require massive downloads too large for one disc to contain; we don’t yet know the numbers for consoles though at that point they weren’t mentioned specifically.
Reddit user SuperSlimeyxx shared on Reddit the news that PlayStation 5 requires an additional 100GB patch on Day-1 – in addition to its current installation size of 62GB – due to physical media restrictions.
“They should have released this game on two discs instead, to at least guarantee you would purchase 100% of it rather than only 40%,” suggested Redditor 47-Alpha-Tango. KayJune001 expressed frustration by explaining “they completely screwed over physical owners by performing Hogwarts Legacy-style updates which require every update or else will lock you out until updated!”
“Rather than including all the game on one disc as is typical with large titles, they made physical copies totally unplayable for those without good internet. This decision infuriates me; not only was this detrimental for game preservation efforts and millions without good connection services but it was unwise all around.”
Electronic Arts recently issued a warning that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will require “weeks” of bug fixing, so prepare to allocate even more storage space soon. Unfortunately, this can come as an unpleasant shock for those that bought physical copies hoping they wouldn’t experience excessive download/update sizes; unfortunately no matter who buys their copy there are never guarantees in modern gaming!
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is an outstanding sequel, building upon every criticism fans had of Fallen Order while also adding many features that’ll keep players engaged for an extended period of time. Without something truly groundbreaking coming out to replace this title as 2023’s best action/adventure game.”
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is available now for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles.
