DX-Ball 2 for Microsoft Windows is a brickbuster developed by Longbow Games. The sequel to DX-Ball, by Michael P. Welch is characterized by its introduction of a 16-bit, high-colour engine. This allows for vivid graphics and textured bricks.
In a Breakout style game, you must clear all the bricks from the board to move on to the next one. By using the mouse to control a paddle on the bottom screen, the player can keep one or more ball in play and bounce them against a brick field. Some bricks require multiple hits to clear while others are unbreakable or invisible.
Random Power-Ups may be released randomly as bricks are cleared (see Power Ups). Depending on which Power-Up is being used, the player can choose whether to use the paddle or not. Some Power-Ups can speed up gameplay by adding guns to the paddle or by splitting the ball up into several balls.
Other Power-Ups increase difficulty by increasing the speed of the ball and shrinking the paddle. A paddle is lost if the player fails to hit the final or sole ball. Once all the spare paddles are lost or when the board set is complete, then game ends.
