Certain rooms contain typewriters which allow saving but each time will expend one of a limited supply of ink ribbons collected during gameplay. Resident Evil 2’s graphics consist of real-time generated, polygonal character and item models which can be moved around by players in real time; these layers are superimposed over pre-rendered backdrops with fixed camera angles for viewing purposes. Tank controls are used for this game; pressing up moves the character in their intended direction while down reverses them; left and right rotation can also occur irrespective of what perspective of camera you use to play it from.
