The Need for Speed (1994) is a Racing Sports video game. The concept behind The Need for Speed involves race cars in sports, including exotic cars and Japanese imports. The initial 3DO version has three point-to point tracks divided into three stages. The subsequent ports include point-to-point tracks, as well as a new closed circuit. The Saturn and PlayStation versions also include three tracks. The traffic vehicles are featured in races and can be avoided by players. Police pursuits can also be the main gameplay element, that can result in the player being ticketed or detained if a law enforcement car successfully gets in pursuit.
The player is arrested when they are issued a second police ticket (or an additional ticket when playing version the Sega Saturn version).
