Once Human Developer Apologizes for Bugged Update and Teases First Big Update
Developer Starry Studio, part of NetEase, has announced the first major update for their open-world survival game Once Human, which will introduce new PvP and PvE modes, as well as “a new northern mountain region, monsters, and challenges.” However, this exciting news comes with an apology, as a recent maintenance update caused significant issues, leading to the demolition of numerous player houses and the disappearance of items.
The Problem
Following a patch rollout on July 18, players on Reddit began reporting issues with items and bases disappearing, sometimes partially and other times entirely. The developers quickly acknowledged the problem.
Starry Studio addressed the issue the next day on Steam and Discord: “We have received feedback regarding item and territory losses after yesterday’s maintenance. We apologize for the inconvenience. Both problems have been identified and are currently being resolved as quickly as possible.”
Compensation
- Items lost during the “deposit” function: These will be returned through in-game mail, along with unspecified “additional compensation.”
- Housing loss: The studio promised to repair affected territories and return lost items and building materials to the territory Vault, with extra compensation included.
“We sincerely apologize to the Metas who were affected and extend our gratitude to the Metas who reported these issues through the community and other channels, helping us identify the problems,” Starry Studio wrote. “Thank you for your understanding and support.”
Community Reaction
The issue arose shortly after developers requested positive reviews on Steam, aiming to maintain their “mostly positive” rating from over 38,000 user reviews. Despite this bugged update, the player base has remained stable, and the game has not faced a significant review bombing campaign, indicating that players generally enjoy the game and are willing to be patient.
Upcoming Update
The first big update will include:
- New PvP gameplay scenario: Featuring confrontations between the main camps in the game, Mayflies and Rosetta.
- New PvE scenario: Set in a new northern mountain region with new monsters and challenges.
A teaser image for the update has also been shared, hinting at the new content players can look forward to.
Conclusion
Despite the recent setbacks, Starry Studio is committed to resolving the issues and compensating affected players. The upcoming update promises to add exciting new content, and the community’s overall positive reception indicates a hopeful future for Once Human.
