Project Cars and its Sequel are Being Delisted from Digital Stores
Project Cars and Project Cars 2, the first two games in the racing series by Slightly Mad Studios, are being delisted from digital stores in the coming months, according to a post on the series’ social channels.
The announcement says this is due to the expiration of both games’ car and track licenses, which I guess small indie publisher Electronic Arts isn’t willing to shell out the cash to renew. While both Project Cars and its sequel will remain online and fully playable for those already owning them, both will be removed from digital sale soon. Project Cars 2 will go first on September 21, with the original game to follow on October 3. The full announcement reads as follows:
Project Cars and its sequel launched in 2015 and 2017, respectively, with the third game just coming to PC, PS4, and Xbox One in 2020. A mobile spin-off called Project Cars Goes launched on Android and iOS in 2021. Slightly Mad Studios has dealt with another recent delisting with its game Fast & Furious: Crossroads, which was removed from digital stores back in April.
Video games and preservation have been taking a lot of hits in recent years, with one of the most notable examples being Nintendo shutting down the 3DS and Wii U eShops next year. The move will make several games and services unavailable digitally and more likely to go up in price for those looking to buy physical copies from secondary sources. It will also drastically affect the Pokemon franchise, which has used the 3DS as a bridge between generations.
