New Leak Hints at Potential Fortnite x Super Mario Crossover
A new leak suggests that Fortnite might be eyeing a crossover with none other than Super Mario. Over the years, Fortnite has become a hub for iconic collaborations, adding characters from film, anime, TV, music, and games into its universe. From Street Fighter’s Ryu and Chun-Li to League of Legends’ Jinx and Assassin’s Creed’s Ezio, Epic Games’ battle royale has teamed up with some of the biggest names across pop culture. However, despite this impressive roster, a certain Italian plumber has yet to make his debut—until now, perhaps.
This possible crossover first gained attention when well-known leaker iFireMonkey shared on Twitter the discovery of an unusual flipbook asset. The item in question resembled Super Mario‘s iconic question block and was labeled “MC box” in the file, sparking speculation that this could stand for “Mario coin box.” Traditionally, Mario’s question blocks grant items or coins to players and have become one of the franchise’s most recognizable symbols.
The news has excited fans on social media, with many expressing hope for a crossover that could even include a Mario Kart-inspired mode. However, others remain skeptical, pointing out that the asset could be a placeholder for Fortnite’s Rocket Racing, a mode that previously included Rocket League vehicles and physics-based gameplay. However, with Epic Games recently putting Rocket Racing on pause, the likelihood of it being part of that mode seems slim.
It’s worth noting that Epic Games has pursued Nintendo collaborations before, though the family-friendly nature of Nintendo’s IPs has sometimes made partnerships tricky. As with any leak, it’s best to take this information with a grain of salt. Time will tell whether this Super Mario crossover rumor evolves into a full-fledged event or remains a curious hint of what could have been.
