Stardew Valley 1.6 Update Adds Mobile Multiplayer Mode
Eric Barone, Stardew Valley’s dedicated developer, has sneaked a hidden feature into the new 1.6 update for mobile players: an experimental multiplayer mode. Players can now join games via mobile, connecting with PC-hosted farms by inputting an IP address. But don’t expect a fully seamless experience just yet—Barone’s new Stardew Valley mobile multiplayer guide warns of potential connectivity issues, especially when using mobile networks.
Released on PC in March, the update finally hit consoles and mobile on November 4, bringing even more content and features. But Barone kept a playful secret within the lush title screen: mobile multiplayer, unlocked by none other than the Konami code (hidden in the game’s leafy logo).
To use mobile multiplayer, a WiFi connection is best, especially for mobile devices connecting to a PC-hosted farm. But Barone acknowledges the range of possibilities, from smooth play to “potentially frustrating” scenarios—think a player hosting from a low-performance phone on a train, complete with incoming calls interrupting the game. Still, if you want to experiment, Barone supports your adventurous spirit.
Once the code is entered, players will see a new co-op button on the title screen. Host a game by setting up cabins on your farm for other players, or join a game with the IP address of the host. This hidden feature remains in testing, with Barone cautioning that it may have bugs and isn’t guaranteed to offer a smooth experience.
Also on November 4, Barone released a 1.6.10 bug fix for PC players, which removed the amusingly invisible coyotes. Fans continue to hope for more exciting updates, like the possible introduction of adoptable animals in a future 1.7 update—though that’s just wishful thinking (for now!).
