Rainbow Six Siege Cross-Play Coming to All Platforms in December with Year 9 Season 4 Update
Rainbow Six Siege fans have exciting news to look forward to this December. Ubisoft has announced that full cross-play support will arrive with the Year 9 Season 4 update, Operation Collision Point. This feature will allow players to team up with friends across all platforms for the first time.
How Cross-Play Will Work
The new system ensures seamless matchmaking between platforms, but there’s a catch: if a PC player is part of your squad, your team will be placed in the PC matchmaking pool for balance reasons.
Cross-play isn’t entirely new to Siege. It was first introduced for PC, Amazon Luna, and the now-defunct Stadia in mid-2021. Console players on Xbox and PlayStation joined the cross-play ecosystem in late 2022, along with cross-progression across all platforms.
Player Protection Updates
Ubisoft is also rolling out key updates to enhance player protection:
- Mousetrap Penalty Adjustments: To ensure fairness in cross-play environments.
- Automatic Match Cancellation: Games will automatically cancel if a cheater is detected.
- Reputation Center Overhaul: Improved tracking of player behavior.
- AI Text Moderation: Smarter tools to manage in-game communication.
New Content and Features
Operation Collision Point isn’t just about cross-play. It also introduces:
- A new variant of the ballistic shield for operator Blackbeard.
- Balancing updates for Ying and Sens.
- Additional gameplay improvements and features.
Massive Financial Success
Rainbow Six Siege continues to be a major success story for Ubisoft. As of October, the game has generated over €3.5 billion since its release in 2015. For comparison, the entire Assassin’s Creed franchise, which began in 2007, has earned around €4 billion—a testament to the enduring popularity and profitability of Siege.
With these new updates, Ubisoft is looking to further cement Rainbow Six Siege as a premier tactical shooter, offering a blend of innovation and fairness for its growing player base.
