Artist Claims that Call of Duty Plagiarized Its Upcoming Liyal Samoyed skin
Raven Software has released its patch notes for Call of Duty Season 4 Reloaded. However, an artist claims that not all skin reveals are owned by Activision Blizzard. Raven deleted images of the dog from its communications shortly after the skin was revealed.
Raven shared its plans and events for the upcoming Call of Duty modifications, add-ons, and changes on July 28. It also shared its Terminator-themed goodies and a Floof Fury Tracer Pack with a Samoyed outfit. Sail Lin claims that Raven stole the Samoyed skin of operator Kim Tae Young. Lin shared their evidence on Twitter and ArtStation, comparing their work to the Loyal Samoyed skin.
Sail Lin wrote, “I just discovered at the time that my work had been plagiarized.” “Even though my role is COD player, it’s very disappointing to see my work plagiarized in this manner by an enormous company like Activision.” Activision has been contacted for clarification and compensation. I hope the matter will be resolved soon. As an artist, I am limited in my ability to do anything. I must speak out to prevent this from happening again.
The Call of Duty Loyal Saoyed (right) and Sail’s art (left) look similar. Lin’s ArtStation account shows that their upload of the “Samoyed Medical” concept was made two years ago. This predates the images Raven shared this week from Call of Duty. Lin uploaded many images similar to the Sammy with operator-style concepts.
This report by Polygon highlighted the areas where Raven and Activision removed the Loyal Samoyed skin communications. The blog post does not include a photo of the dog in its quality-of-life section. An earlier tweet promoting the new look on the Raven Software account has been deleted. At the time of writing, Lin’s allegations were not acknowledged by Activision nor Raven Software.
