Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is an action-adventure video game developed and published by Naughty Dog for PlayStation 4. As part of Sony Computer Entertainment’s flagship Uncharted series, this fourth main entry released May 2016 follows Nathan Drake from retirement as an ex-treasure hunter to search for Henry Avery’s lost treasure while fighting off Rafe Adler and Nadine Ross’ mercenary group which are also looking for it – eventually leading him on an exciting final mission before leaving his series capstone appearance with this final adventure featuring Nathan as Nathan in Uncharted!
Development was severely hindered in 2014 following Amy Hennig and Justin Richmond’s departure from Naughty Dog, as their roles of lead writers and creative directors became vacant. Bruce Straley and Neil Druckmann from their previous game The Last of Us took their places, leading the development team towards open world gameplay featuring vehicles and larger levels as well as more realistic stealth gameplay; more realistic stealth play; improved stealth; upgraded multiplayer modes including both competitive and co-operative mode playback modes were implemented into development plans as a response.
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End earned much praise from critics for its narrative, emotional depth, musical score, visual quality, improved gameplay and multiplayer modes. Reviewers saw this game as the fitting end to Nathan Drake’s journey and it won several Game of the Year awards from gaming publications and award events – quickly becoming its highest selling title and ultimately becoming Sony PlayStation’s highest selling PS4 title ever with sales exceeding 12 Million units sold globally since release (this expansion called The Lost Legacy was later made available separately in 2017).
