Atomfall: A Very British Take on Post-Apocalyptic Survival

What if Stalker was set in the quaint, eerie countryside of post-nuclear disaster Britain? That’s the premise behind Atomfall, an upcoming survival-action game from Rebellion, the developers behind Sniper Elite. Set in the aftermath of the real-world 1957 Windscale fire—the UK’s largest nuclear catastrophe—Atomfall imagines a world where authorities, instead of covering up the accident, create a sprawling quarantine zone.

Five years after the incident, the game’s world is far from the idyllic landscapes you’d find in a Midsomer Murders episode. Although outwardly peaceful, the isolation and radiation have twisted the residents, made military encampments a common sight, and left behind hostile remnants like giant robots and pagan ruins. Armed with a trusty metal detector, players are tasked with uncovering the mysteries of this troubled countryside, including why the supposed short-term quarantine has dragged on for so long.

With its blend of scavenging, crafting, bartering, and combat, Atomfall invites comparisons to Stalker, but with a uniquely British twist. Players must navigate through bizarre characters, cults, mysticism, and rogue government agencies in a story-driven world where every decision has consequences.

Atomfall is slated for release in March 2025 and is available for wishlisting on Steam and the Epic Games Store.
