The survival game that keeps on giving is taking a bit more time before delivering its next major update. Terraria 1.4.5, which has been in development for over two years, won’t be making its way to players in 2024. In a recent State of the Game update, Re-Logic confirmed that while the patch is nearly complete, it won’t be released until 2025.

“The work on the final lists from each dev team member is nearing its conclusion, which is a great measure of progress. That said, we are pretty certain that there is no way we will see Terraria 1.4.5 release this year,” wrote Ted “Loki” Murphy, Re-Logic’s head of community.

A Delay for the Right Reasons

According to the update, the delay stems from the final touches on the patch taking longer than expected. Instead of rushing the team to meet an “arbitrary deadline” during the holidays, Re-Logic has opted to release the update when it’s truly ready.

“We are sure that will not be welcome news for many—but we remain committed to being a quality-first studio, so we will take the time necessary for each update to feel ‘just right’… and we think that once the update is out, everyone will appreciate that time and care,” Murphy explained.

This emphasis on quality aligns with Re-Logic’s long-standing commitment to its fans. While delays can be disappointing, the studio’s dedication to delivering polished content is a key reason Terraria continues to thrive over a decade after its launch.

The Wait Continues

Terraria fans have been anticipating 1.4.5 since it was first announced back in 2022, with initial hopes for a 2023 release (now a distant memory). While the extended timeline might test the patience of some, the community’s history suggests that most players will be understanding—especially considering how much post-launch support Terraria has received since its supposed “final” update in 2020.

Terraria’s enduring success makes the wait a bit easier to swallow. With a thriving modding scene and continued sales success, Re-Logic has been able to keep expanding the game well beyond its original vision.

A Small Teaser

Re-Logic hasn’t left fans completely empty-handed this year. The update included a small teaser of one of the new features coming in 1.4.5: players will be able to plant trees by throwing acorns, as shown in a short gif embedded in the blog post. It’s a simple yet charming addition that aligns with Terraria’s ever-growing toolkit for creative gameplay.

Looking Ahead

While the wait for Terraria 1.4.5 continues into 2025, fans can rest assured that Re-Logic’s decision to delay stems from a desire to maintain the game’s high standards. For now, the community can look forward to another year of speculation, modding, and creative builds while awaiting the next chapter in Terraria’s long-running story.
