Terry Cavanagh created VVVVVVV, a 2D puzzle platform videogame. VVVVVV is different from other platforming games. Instead of being able to jump, the player can reverse gravity by standing on a surface. This causes Captain Viridian’s fall to either the upwards or the downwards. This feature was first introduced in Terminus, an 8-bit arcade game from 1986.
This mechanic allows the player to navigate through the game’s environment, avoiding hazards such as moving enemies and stationary spikes. New mechanics are introduced in later areas, such as moving floors and rooms that, when touched, cause the character to appear on another side.
VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV has eight levels. There are two intermissions and one final level. This level can only be seen outside Dimension VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV, which is located in a larger open-world for the player. The game world is difficult and contains many checkpoints. After death, the character’s status will be reset.
