New Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Trailer: Gym Tests, Team Star, and New Friends
Game Freak and The Pokemon Company have released a new trailer for Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. It also revealed further information about the game’s Paldea region and all the new friends, foes, and pocket monsters that will be found there when the games arrive on Switch.
The trailer for “Seek Your Treasure” highlights many aspects of the game. It includes new characters, Pokemon, and riffs on Pokemonideas such as gym battles. The video starts with Team Star, the antagonistic team from Scarlet & Violet. They are portrayed as troublemakers at the school that the player will attend, depending on the game they are playing. Mela, a brand new character in the trailer, is the boss of Team Star’s Fire Crew. On top of a Mad Max-style vehicle covered in speakers, she’s seen fighting with a Torkoal. Arven, an older friend at the player’s school who is a talented cook but not a skilled trainer, is also featured in the trailer. As they battle Klawf, a giant Titan Pokemon of the rock-type crab Pokemon that debuts in Scarlet & Violet, Arven is shown fighting alongside the player. Arven and Titan Pokemon will be the bosses that players will encounter.
The return of gym battles was already known, but the trailer showed how Scarlet & Violet would change the formula. The player was seen performing a Gym test, which involved finding and collecting Sunflora within a given environment. The gym appears to be managed by Pressius. He was a grass-type leader who used a Smoliv, Sudowoodo and adorned the grass-type Tera Crystal. Sunflora, a grass-type Pokemon, is why the Gym Tests will spotlight each gym’s type. Geeta is a new character that was introduced as the Pokemon League Chairwoman. She greets the player, but it is unclear if her role is to organize or perhaps she is a trainer/potential champion.
The trailer ends with a spotlight on two new Pokemon that wear armour suits. They are called Ceruledge and Armarouge. Armarouge’s armour was said to belong to a “distinguished fighter,” Ceruledge is said to be “steeped with grudges.” Armarouge is only available to Scarlet. Violet will not be available.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet will be coming to Switch on November 18th. This will be the series’ first foray into open-world RPG formats. While Pokemon Legends and Pokemon Sword & Shield have tried this, their open areas were not part of a single map. Scarlet & Violet will also have a four-player coop so that you can explore Paldea with your friends.
