As Ed Jones returns from fishing trip with him, they realize the world has been taken over by zombies. Joined by Maya Torres of the military, they use walkie talkies to contact Lily Ritter of Church of Ascension where she and other survivors have established bases; she convinces them to remain with their community by convincing Lily Ritter they should remain.
As the game advances, survivors become aware of the presence of US Army units led by Sergeant Erik Tan and Captain Diane Montressor, and discover their purpose is not evacuation but investigation of what caused the outbreak. You’ll meet local citizen leader Judge Lawton who barricade his court with local law enforcement, caring for its residents while taking into consideration war laws before planning rebuilding Trumbull Valley after zombie outbreak is finished. Later they encounter Wilkersons who seek profit through disaster by exploiting survivors for profit.
Lawton falls victim to the zombie outbreak at court and later dies as Captain Montressor flees with Sergeant Tan and his men from behind, leaving Sergeant Tan to deal with things alone at reservoir. With Tan, you discover many corpses at reservoir as a cause of outbreak; together you plan to flee valley by way of road that runs out and is blocked off with concrete walling.
