Need for Speed Heat is an action-packed racing game that takes place in an open-world area known as Palm City, a fictionalised version of the city of Miami, Florida and its surroundings.
The map in the game features a variety of geographical features, such as mountainous regions and fields that are open. In contrast to Need for Speed Payback, it does not have the 24-hour cycle of day and night, however, players can change between night and day. At the time of day, the players can participate in race events that are sanctioned where they are awarded cash that they can spend on upgraded cars or new vehicles. Players can also participate in street races that are illegal late at night. This will earn players’ REP. The higher the amount of rep a player earns the higher the level of aggressiveness police officers will become at night.
