Dead Island can be described as an adventure video game created in collaboration with Polish game developer Techland and released through German Studio Deep Silver. Dead Island features an apparent free world that is divided into large regions that are played in an initial-person view. A majority of the game’s games’ gameplay revolves around combat (mainly melee guns) and the completion of missions. Dead Island can be described as an action-based role-playing game that utilizes experience-based gameplay.
Players earn XP by taking on tasks and destroying enemies. When they reach a certain level the player will gain stamina and health, and can invest one skill point in a skill tree, and then increase the level of one of their abilities. Combat is conducted through either physical assaults or using firearms and melee weapons. Weapons that are melee-focused are emphasized in a way that firearms aren’t used at the beginning of the game. These are comprised of bladed and blunt weapons. They can also throw into targets at any moment during the game.
The weapons are generated randomly and are placed in fixed places and also in the faces of enemies. They possess unique stats, which depend upon the player’s current skill status. Every weapon is upgradeable three times to improve the stats of its owner, and a majority of weapon types can be “modded” – customised based on a blueprint, allowing unique features, like electric blades nails or poison. They will wear out because of constant use and need maintenance and careful usage.
